Mechanics - RNG Mod, General Mod; Tells
RNG stands for Random Number Generator, found here: https://www.random.org.
The RNG Mod is a mod who is not playing a character in the game. The password to an account,
sheep_dog , will be given to them. The
sheep_dog account will already have the post introducing A to their situation in the form of a Game Master post. This post will be non-interactive.
All first round characters will be numbered and the randomizer will pick one number from amongst them to be A. A is the character removing other characters from play. The RNG Mod, using the
sheep_dog account, will add Character A to the viewing list for the Character A intro post. The RNG Mod will not interact with Character A on this post.
The RNG will then generate a number 1-100. If the number is less than 40, then using RNG again a random member of the remaining Regular Characters will be picked to be Character B. Character B will be informed that they are Character B with pre-written flavor text explaining their investigative power. Every Friday (aside from the Friday the game starts on) Character B will be able to PM sheepwolf with one character's screen name. RNG Mod will tell them if that character is Character A or not. It is possible for Character A to also end up being Character B.
Whether or not Character B exists, Character A will also be able to PM sheepwolf every Friday after the starting Friday. Character A will PM sheepwolf with the character they've elected to kill. RNG will PM that name on to the general mod. On Saturday, it will be announced on the OOC community.
During the second half when secondary characters come into play, there may be other surprises in store, such as a Character A2, or B2 (or B1 if they don't yet exist-). As this current game is in beta, I'll be reserving decisions on how to run with that until I see where we're at in the game by then. I'll most likely base it on whether having an A2 or a new B is likely to extend the game or shorten it. In general my goal as the general mod will be to expand the game.
Any powers your character might use in the game should be noted in your applications so they can be planned for in the setting. Characters are allowed to have private interactions in OOCly locked posts on their own journals. For example, if your character is a hacker and you want to be able to access other character's private digital communications or can use a magic device to spy from a distance, if you don't declare that in advance, the mods will not share the contents of those posts. To use such a power, PM
sheep_dog with the details of what your character is hacking or viewing, when and how, and if applicable they will share the information with you. Likewise, if your character has or can set up a way to trace magic or hacking attempts, include it in your application. The RNG Mod may roll on RNG to see who can out-hack or out-magic the other if necessary. If you just want to note that you're attempting but think your character would fail, but think the other character should know about the attempt, not only is that awesome, but you can just tell the other player directly. Note that the RNG mod
sheep_dog is only scheduled to check on Fridays for Character A and Character B actions, so if you need RNG Mod to check their inbox throughout the week, poke general mod
yunon to poke them. I don't need to know what for or what characters are involved. You can do it with a sock account if you want.
While other players can keep their characters a secret and you might not know if Jake is playing both Amber and Andy, you will always be aware of which characters are played by the Gen Mod, since being a mod does mean I have slightly more OOC information, such as knowing who all the characters are, knowing who's incoming and knowing what's happening in the setting. You can crit me freely if you think I'm using it to my advantage, but I wanna play too damn it.
Knowing who's playing who shouldn't be that big of a deal though, and I suspect most people will announce it freely on the OOC community, and also that it will be obvious based on who isn't tagging themselves.
Tells
This is where you come in!
The RNG mod's other duty will be to use RNG to select a tell. Everybody can submit as many tells as they like, though please include each tell in a separate post for numbering purposes. The RNG Mod will read through all applications and the setting description and be aware of the types of characters in the game and make sure the tell selected fits the type of game being run.
This means that the General Mod, also playing characters in the game, will not know what the Tell is. Honor system on using it, Character A!
All eliminations/deaths will need to take place between Friday night and Saturday morning as that's when the RNG mod will check in. If during another session the RNG mod is more regularly present, this will be changed. You're free to leave tells with instant deaths if your tell is a method of killing rather than something which must always be done or cannot be done, but the RNG Mod might reshuffle if it doesn't suit their schedule.
Unless otherwise specified in your Tell, whether a body is left or not and its condition will be generic to the game as announced in the finalizing post. If yours is too light or dark for the cast we have, it might also get shuffled out if landed on.
Example of a tell: Whenever Character A is typing or communicating anything through writing, they will always transpose the letters ie. So for example, they would have to write 'I gave them thier just desserts' or 'That's not very sceintific.'
Remember that tells must be things characters can notice; players noticing something their characters can't is no good. So a tell could not require players to have such typos in character speech.
But if the setting doesn't have much writing or text communication, that'd be a poor tell, wouldn't it? So if the RNG picked it, the RNG Mod would have the liberty to pick again.
An example for a setting without text would be: Character A must make direct physical contact for a period of 30 seconds or more with the person they are going to eliminate within 72 hours of their elimination.
This is a Tell that requires a certain action to be performed to do the kill. The ie tell is a tell that permanently limits or forces the character's actions. Both, or any other creative tells are allowed!
So everyone, submit those Tells! All unused Tells will remain screened at the end of the game for use in the next ones.
I'm not going to enforce it, but I encourage you to keep them a secret and not talk about your suggested tells OOCly!
