[At the beginning of day two and closer to sunrise than midnight, somebody will be wandering around the halls with the Master Bedroom computer wrapped up in a bathrobe for easy transport. He won't open any closed bedroom doors but he will be testing the computer in the bedroom hallway, the laundry room, the office, and the dining room.

He also snoops through any clothing still left by that time in the laundry room and takes a spoon, a mug, a bag of sugar, and tea bags from the pantry before retreating to the Master Bedroom walk-closet.

Sneaking up might not be very effective but he won't show signs of hearing anybody coming or looking unless they seem to want to be noticed.

All of this will take just under 30 minutes.


Update: L screams in his thread with Ryuk. Others would probably hear it if they're near the walk-in closet.]

[This induces a lengthy, uncomfortable pause, as the shinigami rubs the back of his head for a moment, seeming for one rare moment a bit discomforted, though his composure recovers rapidly.]

Any idea about who else is here? You're the first person I've run into.

I have several ideas. One is that there is, or will be, six of us.

[He reaches to where he's set up his cup and spoon for one of the tea bags and holds it up. He hasn't actually made any of them yet.]

Does your species drink? There is sugar.

Eh, no, thank you. What makes you say six?

[For a moment, the shinigami casts about for somewhere to settle, before finally just seating himself on the floor, his spindly legs bent up at the knees.

Because you are unique. [He plops the bag back down in an empty cup.] Do you eat and drink at all?

Not really. Just apples, but they're more like liquor or cigarettes than food.

[He answers flatly, not catching on to what he may have just confirmed - or not caring.]

Apples, [A wet, tongue clicking sound as his thumb goes back over his lips and half muffles his words.] is it? To humans they're very healthy.

What are your species called?

Oi oi, I have a name. [The shinigami utters a low, dry chuckle, its face remaining static.] Ryuk, the shinigami. You don't need to tell me yours. Pleased to meet you.

Do Shinigami know all humans' names?

[His own smile is dry; maybe Ryuk's laugh is just contagious.]

Not quite, but close enough. Glad to see you're gettin' acclimated to this. [Though mischievous, his tone has a savage sort of warmth, friendly in the manner of a curiously snuffling grizzly bear, affable without affection.] So, are any of your other, uh... associates, around here?

You're the first one I've seen too. It's dangerous to go out there.

Heh. I suppose for you, it would be. [For a moment, he leans over, sticking his face into the wall to peer into whatever is adjacent before withdrawing again.] If I encounter anyone out there, is there any message you want me to give 'em?

You talk as if you have nothing to fear. That's dangerous, maybe even for a Shinigami.

[That stiff expression shifts with a surprising rubberiness, twisting into a scowl of mirthful ominousness as he leans conspiratorially closer.]

I've lived a long, long time, and I'll live a long time yet. There are only two things that can kill a shinigami. One of them, I don't need to worry about. The other is boredom, and I couldn't possibly get bored with an interesting situation like this.

((A purely IC boast, to the best of my OOC knowledge. Whether or not the current situation provides any way to kill him directly, I have no idea.))

[Ryuk is quiet for a good while, enough that it's pretty clear he has no earthly idea what to make of that comment. Eventually, he seems to decide to just not strain himself over it.]

So... What exactly were you doin' before you turned up here, anyway?

The same thing I've been doing since I've turned up: pursuing a murderer.

[Ryuk seemingly considers this for a short while - or just stares off into space - before slowly drawing himself into a standing position once more.]

Ya never answered my question. Anything you'd like me to tell the outside world on your behalf?

I'd prefer they not know about me to kill me but I guess it can't be helped now. It's a shame I screamed.

But them knowing about you will be more dangerous to you. Are you sure you want to go out there?

[inthecolosseum]

[A grin splits the Shinigami's face once more as he straightens up, flexing.] I told you, I don't have anything to worry about, and I really need to check if any apples have been stocked here. It's been nice talking to you, human. I hope you don't die too quickly.

[L only looks up and stares, waiting for him to leave, to watch him simply phase through the wall again.

Once he's gone, his tongue clicks as if in disappointment about something before turning back to the computer.]
