sheepwolf | What does it say about this group if Mikami's the first one to go outside?

[Mikami's route after talking to Light online consists of heading from the office which he's decided will be his bedroom though he's left nothing there to claim it as such, back to the laundry room and changing into L's spare clothes, then heading outside to explore the outside area. He has a notebook and several pencils with him for sketching out a rough map, using his watch and counting his steps to try to estimate distances.

Once the sky starts turning pink and purple and darkness is on the horizon he'll head back, sure to be back before it's anywhere near fully dark. His first stop once inside will be to the office to put down his things, then to the laundry room to fetch his suit, then to bathroom #2 to shower, then back to the laundry room to drop off L's clothing, then back to the office.

Mikami's not trying to be particularly covert, or if he is, he's bloody terrible at it. Feel free to run into him outside, see him through a window, or catch him coming or going through the front door at any point during the above log of activities.]

There isn't even murderer. There is a kidnapper, one painfully well resourced, but that's all so far. [A frown--or a deeper one than his default expression. Saying "that's all" of what's sounding to be like part of the biggest conspiracy he's ever heard seriously suggested by anybody not on a street corner, a secured mental health unit, or an internet forum is ironic, and irony is too close to humor for Mikami to appreciate. Particularly as a victim of it.] That's enough.

That's what I was thinking, but this "warning" is probably meant to push someone to make it self-fulfilling just to make themselves feel safe. Those types do that.

The best way to be safe wouldn't be proactive "self defense." None of us should be that far into a panic yet. The best defense would be to vote someone suspected to be "sent back," instead of instigating a violent atmosphere. [Once the fish are safely on the dock enough not to go all flopping back into the water he reaches into his pocket to take out his neatly folded letter.] But that's playing into their game too...

I've got faith that we'll make it off, but if we do get someone sent back, we'll at least have a window to find out exactly who these people are and why we're here.

The problem is how much we should humor them by even voting for something harmless--no, [His eyes scan over the letter again before holding it out for her, hoping for a confirmation that hers is identical.] for something good to happen to a person. I have a hard time trusting in a criminal's benevolence.

[nod] It's the same one everyone else got. At least it would give us an opportunity.

An opportunity. [He tentatively agrees with a nod, folding the paper back up.] They'll either have to come and fetch the person taken and reveal something about their method, or kill them if their intent's been that all along. It's the latter that worries me.

Which means we'll have to be able to defend ourselves either way.

You're calm about this, all things considered.

Someone's got to be a responsible adult in this mess. [She pauses and sighs.] I miss my family back home as much as anyone else here does. If there's anything I can do to help, I'm going to.

[He frowns at the fish, at his own now sea-filthied clothes; here he thought he was being fairly responsible. Deciding to up the ante, he looks around for a bucket.] Assuming the only criminal is the kidnapper, that's another concern. If someone were go just go back, they'd certainly contact the authorities for the rest of us. I doubt they really intend for any of us to leave alive.

[A smile; she clearly didn't mean anything by it. About you, anyway.]

But if we could get to them, it would still give us an opportunity. Besides, they seem to be the only ones who can solve this.

But then the person elected would be the one in the most danger. No matter what we do, it seems sacrificial, just as they want it to be.

And my investigation isn't turning up anything either. There has to be something out of the ordinary besides... all this. Something that shows what's going on.

He doesn't have high hopes for her offering out anything, but then again he sincerely has no reason to suspect her. If anything, she's made herself stand out by dating herself as from 1997 on the forums, since he recognizes the name.

He stares, wondering if he should bring that up or let it go, as he honestly has no idea what to make of that oddity yet either.]

That's true, and nothing seems to match up. I don't even remember how I got here, and I should have been able to notice being kidnapped, you'd think!

But there are no injuries on anybody, nor do you or Yagami-san remember anything unusual before going to sleep. It's tempting to start considering supernatural explanations at this point.

Supernatural explanations? Do you mean like demons or something similar? I hate to take such a thing lightly, but that would make as much sense as anything around here.

We'd either have to believe in that or a conspiracy. These days, a conspiracy is written off as more insane than belief in the supernatural but if it were something demonic, I'd believe that God would step in.

You never know. Maybe He has. [Smiles.] Even a conspiracy might not make sense with all these things going on. Especially if you're all from ten years after the last day I remember.

It was February of 2010 the last that I remember.

So it's even later for you? That is odd. Yagami-kun mentioned 2007, and he recognized all that technology. I last recall it being 1997, and I certainly don't look any older.

[He'll be the one from refraining on guessing her age openly.] 1997, 2007, 2010... And, neither of you two have any sense of disorientation? [He pauses with a deepening frown.] If one person were off that'd be one thing, but... Is God involved after all?

Strange things have happened, but I haven't seen anything like this. Our captor had better have some answers when they show up.

I can't imagine God would strike them down and leave us here unattended. But still, to single out one person to go alone with them would be irresponsible.
