10 PM Meeting - Laundry Room

[As your character may know if they'd been watching the network thread, Mikami and Light have plans to meet at 10PM in the laundry room. Mikami will end up being about 10 minutes late.]



[OOC: Intended multi-player thread. Feel free to jump in early and run threads until someone interrupts, feel free to interrupt the thread whenever your character does arrive. Since this game tends to move slowly and we're beta, consider going out of turn if appropriate (interruptiong, etc.) as we try to feel this group process out.]

The packages, the notes, everything I've seen so far has been in Japanese. Someone has managed a lot of seemingly supernatural feats, but that doesn't mean we're anywhere other than Earth.

[Having dropped off an envelope in place, L slinks back in and on top of the washing machine again.] Once we've seen that the rules of common sense don't apply to our situation, holding onto the old forms of reasoning is as harmful to our cause as superstition...

[Light readies himself, though he stops when L starts talking.]

Getting rid of all rules is the first step to chaos. We'll need to think differently, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't still apply the laws as we know them. After all, without them, the murder itself isn't a crime.

Natural laws and rules are different things. Assumptions that something supernatural hasn't happened, that the murders will not be supernatural, or even that this is earth are all unfounded. They're only founded in common sense. That doesn't apply here. Surely.

It's not unfounded. The language is our own, the food is familiar and geared toward Japanese origins. Gravity doesn't seem to have changed, and the night and day cycles still line up with my watch. The fish and the fruit are all familiar. I think that's reason enough to assume we're on Earth.

Well, where we are isn't a problem. But that kind of thinking is. As far as the threat of murder, our actual interest, we should be thinking that it will be a killing that defies common sense.

We'll agree on that much. [He turned back around to head toward the room.]

We already have one means of murder that defies it. I'll be going inside now.

[Mikami makes a face at that, looking to Atsushi who is likely his own problem to babysit with Light, the one last left with that duty, on his way out.]

That's if this isn't all for the sake of whipping up a false panic and ring of accusations.

Hm. [That grunt is meant to skirt that issue, an argument not worth having as he instead looks to the others in the room once Light's gone.] Mikami-san and Yagami-san have heard of a supernatural murderer Kira. Atsushi-kun seems to be unfamiliar? And the Shinigami?

That name's been making the round in the human world, hasn't it? I've heard it before.

Kira sounds like something that would interest a Shinigami. Yagami-san has said Kira is a murderer. Mikami-san seems to believe it is a God. It's easy to imagine a connection to a god of death.

So...what is a Kira exac'ly? [Atsushi had never bothered to read the newspapers in Sotoba.]

It's the nickname humans came up for someone who's been killing criminals from a distance, somehow. It's a Japanese mispronunciation of the English word, "Killer."

Would you know if it were connected to Shinigami or your papers?

Wut makes him so different frum other serial killers? [When stoned, Atsushi is almost capable of intelligent conversation.]

Everything. He only targets the worst manner of criminals, to begin with. Kira, God, has been making a better world. No matter how you you are, that you haven't heard of him can only mean that you, like Haneoka-san, are from different circumstances. Either a mental institution or, if we're entertaining the impossible, a different time period.

But, I, too, am interested in what connection the gods of death and their tools may have to God.

Only targets the WORST criminals, eh... phew. Tha's a relief.

[Not seeming inclined to weigh in on moral issues - probably out of simple disinterest - the shinigami addresses L.]

I guess it's possible. But I can't tell any way that you can't. You know what they say. If it looks like a duck...

To clarify: it is not that you won't tell but that you are saying that you sincerely do not know?

[Having a bizarre hannya mask for a face apparently does not preclude the possibility of having a hell of a smug, cryptic grin.]

The Shinigami is taking the wisest measure right now. At the very least, you are against God. In fact, if anything is to happen to the Shinigami with the hints he's given, the most suspicious would be you who is threatening a god of death for unnecessarily concrete information regarding God.

[andeatit]

[Light would come back in at the tailspin of the conversation, hearing only the last few words of Mikami's line. But, everyone was still alive, so that was a win.]

It's finished. There aren't many of us left.
