11 PM - Kitchen Thread

[All characters have relocated to the kitchen where they've set envelopes on the table; characters were encouraged (but not required on any game-based level) to put anything besides their welcome message/map into the envelope. Fake outs, of course, allowed. Separate thread by requests since it's been about two months. If your character put anything in their envelope, a reminder that you can post an anonymous comment with the contents of an envelope here, just be sure to PM sheep_dog to let them know you did in case there's any questions. Once your character's made a reply we'll assume you've had a chance to leave any message. Feel free to leave your anonymous messages in or outside the thread.

Characters can put their vote-off post on the bulletin board after the kitchen thread, but due to OOC issues Haneoka had to be the one voted off the first round. We've confirmed enough characters will vote her off anyway but feel free to list whoever else you want. You can do that anonymously too if you prefer.]

Spare him from repeating himself and ask those questions now. [He has a good sense for why they want to ask them separately, but he doesn't seem to think it's a reason worth humoring. They've been at this for over two hours now with nothing much to show for it.

As Light goes for the copier Mikami, familiar with the office, heads for the sticky notes and begins passing out pens before writing on his own pad.]

We've decided. This time it's Haneoka-san. If we're humoring the idea that the note framed on me was mine, it probably should be me as the most likely to be innocent. But by the next time, if there is a murder, we'll have found them and eliminated the threat. Even if there's still no murder, it'll still probably be me sent next.

I won't speak of next week until I've seen what happens in the next few days. As for Ryuk's time, I won't impose on a private meeting he's already agreed to. Unless either of us are the victim of the murderer, we should have ample time to talk.

[He would also begin to scribble onto his own provided note as he waited for the first sheet to scan.]

I cannot control who he decides to meet with. But if he dies after meeting with me, I'd urge everyone to suspect Yagami-san.

Me? Why would I have a reason to kill him? If you're going to claim he knows a secret of mine, killing him after he's met with you would achieve nothing.

I have the feeling you would suggest we suspect him regardless of who's killed.

You're not all so simple as for that to work.

[It's hard to say if he's mocking an individual or the entire group but it'd be hard to say he isn't mocking anybody with a smile like that.]

I'd hope a simple statement isn't enough to convince anyone. I don't wish Ryuk harm.

Or, is that your intention? To instill doubt in the Shinigami?

As you've said. Admittedly, he seems like the biggest threat now that we're discarding the original notes, but he's not the lone opponent. If the message was true, someone here knows who the murderer will be.

Y'know... I'm almost more curious who the organizer is than who the murderer is. Unless the murderer just wants us to think there's a separate organizer. [A beat passes.] Or vice-versa.

As of yet, there has been no murder, which means no murderer. That is why we can't be pointing fingers; there is no evidence to convict anyone.

That's what I meant, Yagami-kun. Maybe they're just hoping we eat each other alive. [The thought somehow doesn't seem to strike him as being quite as morbid as perhaps it should.]

With your ability, it's calming to know you're able to think logically about this. [If someone decided it was dog eat dog, Ryuk would be the most dangerous.]

Ryuk-san is also hoping we "eat each other alive."

[That's an assessment rather than a judgment.]

[Ryuk's reaction is a drawn-out, raspy chuckle, in the staccato of a car failing to start.]

[Since he's been sleeping in the office and everyone may as well be intruding into his bedroom, he takes a seat on the office couch and casting a brief glare at Ryuk. On the one hand, he can't say he appreciates the tone of that laugh. On the other hand, if he thinks about it (and he does, and he rather wishes he hadn't), a Shinigami trying to play innocent would probably only be more disturbing.

But as unsettling and as necessarily suspicious as a Shinigami is, he still writes down Haneoka's name rather than trying to get rid of the one they all know still has the capacity to kill them all with ease.]

[Still content to play secretary - gangly, seven or eight foot tall, hunched, unblinking secretary - Ryuk produces the last of the notes as requested.]

Now only a select few have murder weapons on them. How comforting.

Ryuk confirms he's still able to kill. We don't know how the murderer himself will kill.

[He just needs to cast his own vote, now.] But, if we know who the killer is, committing murder ourselves isn't the answer.

Yes, we will prioritize human lives. Even criminals.

[It sounds sarcastic when he says it, but most things do.]

The letter suggests that the only way to return is to have the murderer "sent" rather than exacting justice on them. Unless "sent" happens to mean to their gave.

This method of sending the innocents might not be to our advantage.

For this round, it's the right choice. As of right now, there is no killer since there has been no crime. Unless we can solve the case before it happens, only luck or our bias will allow us to send the would-be murderer home on the first round.

That said, it's not impossible to preemptively stop crime. There might be signs. Strange behavior would be hard to detect since most of us are strangers. [His eyes go to L. Yep, he's just always strange.] There may still be an obvious murder weapon, or signs of an escape plan. If anyone sees any of these signs, it's best to bring it to the group's attention.
