A game of clues

[So far, he had been very, very unsatisfied with his progress. Normally, things worked much more smoothly but being dropped into highly tense situations with people who seemed sure of their own paths hadn't made for a cohesive team. While he still felt they were safer in groups of three, it was time to do some real exploration.

The first thing was first: physically searching for clues. He'd stay in the house of course, as he still felt the surrounding land brought on too much threat of danger for the moment and he wanted more clues, or even a clue, toward the locked door in the laundry room. The bedrooms were his first step, as he wanted to look through the computers for potential clues and try to once more assess how many people had appeared. He would knock before going into each. If there was no answer, he would go inside and begin his searches, starting with the computers to see if any held any unique information. The rooms themselves would also be searched for anything that might hold numbers - he was fairly confident that while it was meant to be a difficult puzzle, it was meant to be solvable. Coming from Bedroom 2, he would move to Bedrooms 5, 4, and 3 before moving onto the Master Bedroom.

From there, he would move onto the middle and opposite sides of the house. The Dining Room, Great Room, Kitchen, Office, and finally the Laundry Rooms would be explored. There was no time for sloth.]

[ooc: basically, Light's looking through the entire house. If you want to avoid him, you can have hijinks ensue and have your character move between rooms while he's looking in other rooms; he also won't find any characters that are outside.]

When some of it could be avoided if you would answer the one question I've asked? It's going to be a long story and you've caused a bit of trouble for me as well. Knowing the year isn't too much to ask.

By you. We were working together on the case.

Then it seems you owe me.

You were the one who brought suspicion on me. My name was only cleared after you forced me to spend nearly two months in confinement that wasn't police sanctified. Because of that, I've had to miss my first year of University. I do consider you an ally but it's on equal terms, not in your debt.

I see. That sounds very inconvenient.

[But he's still not cooperating.]

I'd like to work together here, too. Is the year you remember being from such a dangerous secret?

I'm in grave danger right now. [Sip.]

[andeatit]

We all are. I'm not sure hiding in here will protect you from someone who could take us from our homes.

That someone is not the threat.

[andeatit]

There's no way we can be sure of it. If they're willing to trap us for a killer, they're likely willing to do it themselves.

[takethecake]

At worst they're a weapon of the killer.

[andeatit]

Do you have proof of that? [It's a real question, as doubtful as it seems.]

[His hand shoots out.] May I have your letter?

[andeatit]

Ryuga -- no, whatever it is you preferred to be called now that your memory has been tampered with, I'm willing to cooperate with you, but not if the cooperation is so one sided. I am in as much danger from you as you are from me.

Then in exchange for the year.

I've given you my own year. I'll trade it in exchange for your own.

[takethecake]

[Smile.]

You're hiding in a closet. Don't you think it would be in your best interest to work with someone who is willing to move around the house?

Then you'll bring me a few things?

As part of a partnership. That requires concession on your end, too.

It's interesting. [Again his toes run over each other.] You were willing to spend two months in confinement without police sanctions as part of an investigation and to still see me as your ally, but giving me a piece of paper that you have a copy of online, running a few small errands for me, these things are out of the question. Have I lost so much esteem in your eyes?

[andeatit]

There are a lot of differences between that case and this one. For one, even if it wasn't the direct law, there were people there that would hold you accountable. It was also done as part of a condition of partnership, like I'm offering now.

You're also the kind to fake this in order to try and trick me. You were disappointed when I was cleared. You're either lying to me or you're an L who believes he's from a time before we met. Since you refuse to give me any answers, I have no way to trust either L at the moment. Nor are you handing over this innocent piece of paper. I can't be sure you haven't found a clue in our different maps.

There is a clue in my letter, but not one that can be useful without all of them... [His eyes go upwards, lower lip rolling outwards as if just thinking about it is depressing. His thumb pushes up on that lower lip before twisting and hanging at the corner of his mouth.]
