11 PM - Kitchen Thread

[All characters have relocated to the kitchen where they've set envelopes on the table; characters were encouraged (but not required on any game-based level) to put anything besides their welcome message/map into the envelope. Fake outs, of course, allowed. Separate thread by requests since it's been about two months. If your character put anything in their envelope, a reminder that you can post an anonymous comment with the contents of an envelope here, just be sure to PM sheep_dog to let them know you did in case there's any questions. Once your character's made a reply we'll assume you've had a chance to leave any message. Feel free to leave your anonymous messages in or outside the thread.

Characters can put their vote-off post on the bulletin board after the kitchen thread, but due to OOC issues Haneoka had to be the one voted off the first round. We've confirmed enough characters will vote her off anyway but feel free to list whoever else you want. You can do that anonymously too if you prefer.]

I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible to be this ignorant sincerely. Clearly, putting it past him to be behind this was a mistake on more than one level. [Grimacing, his eyes scan the room to L, then to Ryuk. Neither of them seem particularly trustworthy in this matter, but he considers Ryuk slightly longer before closing his eyes, holding in a sigh but making enough of a show of that that it would probably have been better let out, then moves to look at the prints on 'his' envelope himself.]

The fact that we're allowing you to have it is incredible enough. It's illegal.

[Mikami's fingerprints are not on either the intro letter/map in the 4th envelope, nor the unexpected letter.]

His prints are on neither of the two.]

We can't say that without knowing the jurisdiction. Besides... [Decidedly finished, he sets the brush down and reaches to pour a little more tea into his sugar sludge before slurping.] ...This may be a penal colony.

To cover all basis, it's best to dust the whole page. It's strange not to find prints, after all. Ryuk, could you adjust your hold?

I don't think it's so strange.

[No trouble at all, for he will put preference on his tea and is in no rush to continue dusting. He will get to it after a few more leisurely sips.

More importantly, having had Ryuk hold it right there for a longer period of time and to have been touching it just seconds ago, is there anything at all like a print for the soot to catch on? If Ryuk is capable or incapable of leaving prints, this must be the best time to confirm it.]

[It doesn't appear that Ryuk has either fingerprints or skin oils, though his pointy fingers/claws could certainly dimple material, probably a little more easily than a blunt, normal finger could. Dust, however, would slide off as much as unhandled paper.]

Indeed. Either this has to belong to Ryuk, or someone who has taken precautions against leaving prints on the paper even from the beginning.

Who would have anticipated finger printing even being possible in this environment to do so?

I'm confident at least two of us would be aware of the possibility. Likely, three of us, though I don't know enough about you to say as much with certainly, Mikami-san. Atsushi-kun may contain enough paranoia, but I can't say that for certain either.

Yes, correct answer. [To Mikami. Then to Light and everyone else.] Atsushi-san has shown disdain for the law in general, but he has been the opposite of paranoid. Rightly so.

He has an intense dislike of cops. That could easily make someone conscious of how they think.

That said, I don't think he would be the one behind this either.

He has no intent of hiding his criminal past or the behaviors that might be seen as criminal presently. Atsushi-san may have been on to something in saying "who here hasn't been to prison?" even if he was being rhetorical. As I have said, this may be a penal colony.

If it loses it's rhetorical nature, I can answer it easily enough. Not only have I never been convicted of a crime, I've not committed anything that would require a conviction.

Likewise, I have never been convicted. But in the course of solving cases, I have done things that may be considered crimes in other contexts. I will recognize that.

The two of you however are not being so honest.

This might be a common exchange between us, but what I said is still true: I've not committed a crime. If you have proof otherwise, I'm willing to hear it, but until then, it can't be used to prove your theory.

I'd love to hear what crime you're going to charge a Shinigami with.

Going into the specifics isn't necessary. Whether I'm believed or not isn't important right now, but I would like the people here to keep it in their consideration.

Even Shinigami have rules they must abide by. Otherwise, that they've been assigned mythical status for so long can't be well explained. It would be fair to say that the entity responsible has their own concept of justice different from our legal perspectives and are enforcing it arbitrarily with some power heretofore unimaginable to humans or even to Shinigami.

In other words, they're a childish bully. After all, even Shinigami don't enforce any kind of justice. That much is clear. Isn't it, Ryuk-san?

We have a king, but there's not much more to him than the title. Shinigami don't care much for laws or rules. Maybe we did, at one time, but gambling and watching humans are all anyone has the energy for now. But... if someone were judging us here as criminals, I think any shinigami would qualify. After all, if we're alive now, we've inevitably killed humans. Even if a wolf only killed humans to survive, the humans would think of it as a murderer, wouldn't they?

Even ignoring that some of us haven't broken any laws, we choose who gets to leave. That's very kind for someone who feels we need to be punished for any wrong doings.

As for what to do while we're here, it looks like we still have all the sheets, as Ryuk should have Mikami-san's paper.
