10 PM Meeting - Laundry Room

[As your character may know if they'd been watching the network thread, Mikami and Light have plans to meet at 10PM in the laundry room. Mikami will end up being about 10 minutes late.]

Before we move on to that part, I'd like to know if there's a meaning behind the entire Notebook being gone. There are other sources of paper, but the letter mentions they took yours. Is there something special about yours?

There's no particular reason to be suspicious. In fact, if a situation is not created where anybody can feel safe in anonymously presenting any note they have received to us as a group, we don't be able to move forward.

I'd like to collect everyone's maps and threatening letters as well, but if Yagami-san believes me holding paper to be so dangerous, a party that he trusts more is welcome to hold them. The important thing is seeing them all at once.

Well, since I've already told some of you, I might as well tell all of you. A shinigami carries what is called a "Death Note". A human whose name is written in it will die. In the case of a shinigami, their remaining lifespan is added to the shinigami's. Of course, it's as useless for killing one of us as anything else is. But you humans are going to have an interesting time.

So, you have told some of us. [Light's eyes go to L.]

That makes these dangerous. I'd like to scan them into the computer, print off a copy, and destroy the originals. As long as we duplicate it exactly, it should be fine.

Unfortunately, I was not one of them. [He sees that look from Light.] But if everybody would do so while taking their turn to put an envelope in the kitchen which may hold any extra communication, I don't mind. Disarming is safest for everyone.

[His attention turns to Ryuk.] Even if you are a Shinigami, let's try to cherish your life a little more too, yes? You might really die at this rate.

If possible, I would prefer we all handle the destruction together. We can move into the office, make copies, and destroy them there. Then we can proceed with your plan.

There's a potential problem. If there is somebody who has been given an extra note on such paper, that person, suggested to have an imperative to murder, will then be the only one armed.

The note won't be the murder weapon. Unless Ryuk truly is meant to be the last survivor, whatever they can use to kill can even kill a Shinigami.

If I had to stop a murderer, I wouldn't do it with a sheet of paper. Getting rid of these doesn't leave us defenseless. There's also a chance the second note is destroyed. I would still find it incredibly dangerous to keep around.

I still have the notebook itself. So, the paper taken from it should be the only thing you need to worry about.

[For a moment, he seems contemplative.]

Unless the book I have is a fake. It doesn't seem to be, but I can't confirm it for certain without killing someone, and that really doesn't interest me.

There's also the possibility that you're not the only non-human here.

That's true, but considering he does have a ... magical notebook, I think he fits the letter well enough to assume he's the one being address.

Aside from Ryuk, does everyone have their note?

I'm sure he is. What I'm saying, however, is that a non-human might be immune to that weapon.

It's possible. I haven't really ever dealt with any other species but humans. They might very well be the only beings it works on. I'm almost sure this isn't Earth, though. Things may be different here.

There's only one way to test if it works, and it's not something we can do. While I hope Ryuk, and possibly others, are safe, I'm doubtful. This took a lot of preparation. The person behind it wouldn't put in such a big oversight.

I wouldn't call it an oversight. If this paper was meant to be the source of the murder, a hypothetical killer's targets would be limited to those who've given their names.

In your case, Yagami Light is obviously not your real name.

Or it's not meant to be the source of the murder...

I've never had anyone think my name so ridiculous as to question it before, but I assure you I didn't plan for a notebook that could kill by using my name. An oversight considering Kira, but it is my real name.

Why are you so sure that's not my given name? It's unusual, but it's hardly impossible.

It isn't unreasonable. If one's a good person, they wouldn't think to lie about their name even in the context of Kira. Kira has been killing with only a face for years.

I admit it's more to do with the fact I didn't expect Kira to be here. This isn't his style.

Unfortunately, it's my real name, but I have no proof.

For somebody who's been investigating Kira, it would be unureasonable to be caught up in a mysterious crime and to still have such an oversight. It really makes me wonder...

Unlike you, I haven't been trying to steal everyone's note. If Kira's brought us here, he knows my name. If he's one of us, getting rid of these notes should protect us.

[All this theorizing about their predicament and murder weapons is great and all, but there's something more important at hand, and that's making it clear that:] Kira isn't such a malevolent god.
