11 PM - Kitchen Thread

[All characters have relocated to the kitchen where they've set envelopes on the table; characters were encouraged (but not required on any game-based level) to put anything besides their welcome message/map into the envelope. Fake outs, of course, allowed. Separate thread by requests since it's been about two months. If your character put anything in their envelope, a reminder that you can post an anonymous comment with the contents of an envelope here, just be sure to PM sheep_dog to let them know you did in case there's any questions. Once your character's made a reply we'll assume you've had a chance to leave any message. Feel free to leave your anonymous messages in or outside the thread.

Characters can put their vote-off post on the bulletin board after the kitchen thread, but due to OOC issues Haneoka had to be the one voted off the first round. We've confirmed enough characters will vote her off anyway but feel free to list whoever else you want. You can do that anonymously too if you prefer.]

Mikami-san, please stay calm. [Panic instilled panic, though with the current group, only Atsushi seemed willing to go to heightened emotions.

We have your fingerprints to compare the evidence with. If you didn't touch it, they won't be present. But, you're saying the fifth should be empty. Does that mean you didn't put anything inside your envelope?

[He says as if somehow he expects at least Light to be a more understanding case, if only for having a lack of accusation towards him yet, and points to Ryuk again.] I handed him my things before I left! In order to be completely beyond doubt! That I couldn't have copied it and left a fake! [With another breath, he starts to calm down. He's still visibly angry, but the panic subsides. Mostly.] In the first place, if I had evidence like this, why on earth wouldn't I have us all tend to and vote off the supposed murderer right now?

I wonder why that's true for the person who did have that note.

Before we discuss anything further, we'll see what the prints say. I do remember the incident with Ryuk. [But he was sure they all, or most of them, could see a way around that.] So, we'll wait for results.

By the way, Mikami-san, earlier you had said that the only one who could not have been responsible for this envelope [Setting the tea cup down, he finally takes to dusting envelope number four.] was Atsushi-san. If you weren't aware of the nature of his letter, why is it you were certain of that?

When did I... [Calming down enough to think but not enough to really seem much more composed he stiffens his back.] Because I estimated him to be too stupid to have made steps to keep a deadly, magical weapon instead of trying brute force, you mean? [His fists clench, running his mouth fairly quickly as ideas come to him.] In the first place, he's the only one to have been completely unfazed by this talk of a Death Note.

Everyone, [He's done with you for now, Mikami. He doesn't bother responding to his explanation.] would you like for me to dust the last envelope before we open it for one last confirmation?

We should dust them all.

[OOC: Atsushi's saucer-sized fingerprints are there.]

In the mean time, Yagami-san, would you like to confirm that those on the fourth match Mikami-san's instead of yours? Since we are doing things properly. [Dusting that fifth one.] This is unmistakablyAtsushi-san's.

[Light would nod and move to compare the two, though it's done quickly.]

They match Mikami-san. Those do seem like Atsushi-kun's too. Now, before we move too much further, I would like you to test the actual note from the fourth envelope.

Meanwhile, Mikami-san, if you thought one was empty, can you explain your prints being on an envelope at all?

That was quick. [But he doesn't argue, instead turning his eyes to the fourth envelope while putting down the brush for another sip.] Ryuk-san, the letter if you would.

Obviously somebody took my empty envelope and put something else in it. In the first place, as the only other one with finger prints that could possibly be mistaken for mine, shouldn't another party be confirming that they're mine?

[Mikami had verified Light's, but he was willing to let someone else check.]

If you'd like, they'll confirm what I've said. The possibility of someone else putting it into your envelope is why I'm asking for the letter itself to be tested.

[More than happy to play secretary to this little show, Ryuk pinches up the last letter as requested.]

The plan was to burn them anyway. I don't see the problem with letting him be the one to burn them when we're finished.

I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible to be this ignorant sincerely. Clearly, putting it past him to be behind this was a mistake on more than one level. [Grimacing, his eyes scan the room to L, then to Ryuk. Neither of them seem particularly trustworthy in this matter, but he considers Ryuk slightly longer before closing his eyes, holding in a sigh but making enough of a show of that that it would probably have been better let out, then moves to look at the prints on 'his' envelope himself.]

Thanks, man. [Atsushi's frying-pan-like hand descends to clap L's shoulder. He raises an eyebrow at Mikami.] Keep talkin' like that an' I won't let ya have summa the dank.

The fact that we're allowing you to have it is incredible enough. It's illegal.

[Mikami's fingerprints are not on either the intro letter/map in the 4th envelope, nor the unexpected letter.]

And dangerous. [There were a lot of paper sources around, but Light isn't about to point that much out.

His prints are on neither of the two.]

[Nor L's, though he seems to avoid trying to dust around Ryuk's fingers which happen to be where L usually holds the paper from.]

We can't say that without knowing the jurisdiction. Besides... [Decidedly finished, he sets the brush down and reaches to pour a little more tea into his sugar sludge before slurping.] ...This may be a penal colony.
