How can you be so sure? If someone can kidnap a Death God and another man from prison, it's not safe to assume he there's something he can't do.

They won't. I'll need one thing to prove it. Since everybody is here now, it can be done safely.

Somebody has a different letter. Alternately, an extra letter. If we leave one at a time and head to the office, there will be envelopes there. Everybody should leave a sealed envelope on the kitchen counter. The last person will shuffle them when bringing them in. One should put any extra communication they've received in there.

[Now Light is in on calling him a criminal too, even if less directly. With a sigh and a withering look at Light, a tone that doesn't sound like he hopes to be believed, he adds in, for good measure:] My "prison" wasn't an ordinary prison at all. There was no informing me of my rights upon arrest, no appointment of an attorney, nor even a trial. Frankly, this kind of sick game seems more in line with the people behind the prison I was taken from than something I could have been saved from.

I don't oppose that plan, but if anybody has any extra information they weren't willing to bring forward before, there's no reason they would do so anonymously now either.

[Light had pointed out this could have been something to try to get him to admit to being Kira earlier, hadn't he?]

[Also back to L...] I'll also go along with it, but I have my doubts that it will work. If it's on the same letter, we have a better chance but I have seen at least one other letter, and it matches mine. If there's an extra letter, it would be too dangerous to keep it.

It's fine with me. I just left mine where I found it. Unless anyone took it, it should still be there.

Ya talk as though prison is somethin' bad, but I met my best buddy when back in juvie when I was fourteen.

[Atsushi sticks his hands in his pockets and candidly touches his letter in his right pocket, which is crumbled beyond recognition. After seeing Eimi's letter, he had decided that he better hang onto his own. Atsushi hated when people took his stuff. And hated the people that took his stuff.]

It sounds like ya know what yer doin', even though ya ain' much of a fighter. [He says to L.] Yer good for somethin' after all.

[Taking a step back from Atsushi as he starts talking about his time in jail, Mikami still gives him a dubious stare.]

Politely asking that the killer, if one exists, turn over anything relevant to their identity, doesn't sound like the plan of a detective who knows what they're doing. If there is a killer, they only have to avoid standing out as such while we're sitting ducks. What in that room would possibly be worth that risk?

Yer time in jail obviously didn' teach ya anythin' useful, if yer talkin' like that. When the police're onto ya, it's better to come clean instead o' gettin' in deeper. Now, I don' have a better plan, so I ain't standin' here complainin'. The fact that you are says that maybe you do?

Unless this isn't about getting 'a' note but rather a ploy to get all of the notes. You were anxious to get mine before without being willing to hand yours over. I may have a plan for those willing to cooperate, but I need information first.

[His attention turned more fully to Ryuk.] You two have met before the meeting, haven't you? I assume it was your note that was taken, according to the contents of our welcome letter. There's something special about it, isn't there?

There are moral imperatives to "come clean" that should come before self interest. I'm not objecting to his ridiculous plan, at any rate, beyond it being a waste of time. Fortunately, we have nothing else to rush to.

As for the paper... [He glances to Ryuk to see if he intends to talk, first.]

Before we move on to that part, I'd like to know if there's a meaning behind the entire Notebook being gone. There are other sources of paper, but the letter mentions they took yours. Is there something special about yours?

There's no particular reason to be suspicious. In fact, if a situation is not created where anybody can feel safe in anonymously presenting any note they have received to us as a group, we don't be able to move forward.

I'd like to collect everyone's maps and threatening letters as well, but if Yagami-san believes me holding paper to be so dangerous, a party that he trusts more is welcome to hold them. The important thing is seeing them all at once.

[He cracks a rather unhealthy grin.]

Well, since I've already told some of you, I might as well tell all of you. A shinigami carries what is called a "Death Note". A human whose name is written in it will die. In the case of a shinigami, their remaining lifespan is added to the shinigami's. Of course, it's as useless for killing one of us as anything else is. But you humans are going to have an interesting time.

So, you have told some of us. [Light's eyes go to L.]

That makes these dangerous. I'd like to scan them into the computer, print off a copy, and destroy the originals. As long as we duplicate it exactly, it should be fine.

Unfortunately, I was not one of them. [He sees that look from Light.] But if everybody would do so while taking their turn to put an envelope in the kitchen which may hold any extra communication, I don't mind. Disarming is safest for everyone.

[His attention turns to Ryuk.] Even if you are a Shinigami, let's try to cherish your life a little more too, yes? You might really die at this rate.

If possible, I would prefer we all handle the destruction together. We can move into the office, make copies, and destroy them there. Then we can proceed with your plan.

There's a potential problem. If there is somebody who has been given an extra note on such paper, that person, suggested to have an imperative to murder, will then be the only one armed.

The note won't be the murder weapon. Unless Ryuk truly is meant to be the last survivor, whatever they can use to kill can even kill a Shinigami.

If I had to stop a murderer, I wouldn't do it with a sheet of paper. Getting rid of these doesn't leave us defenseless. There's also a chance the second note is destroyed. I would still find it incredibly dangerous to keep around.

I still have the notebook itself. So, the paper taken from it should be the only thing you need to worry about.

[For a moment, he seems contemplative.]

Unless the book I have is a fake. It doesn't seem to be, but I can't confirm it for certain without killing someone, and that really doesn't interest me.

There's also the possibility that you're not the only non-human here.

That's true, but considering he does have a ... magical notebook, I think he fits the letter well enough to assume he's the one being address.

Aside from Ryuk, does everyone have their note?
