11 PM - Kitchen Thread

[All characters have relocated to the kitchen where they've set envelopes on the table; characters were encouraged (but not required on any game-based level) to put anything besides their welcome message/map into the envelope. Fake outs, of course, allowed. Separate thread by requests since it's been about two months. If your character put anything in their envelope, a reminder that you can post an anonymous comment with the contents of an envelope here, just be sure to PM sheep_dog to let them know you did in case there's any questions. Once your character's made a reply we'll assume you've had a chance to leave any message. Feel free to leave your anonymous messages in or outside the thread.

Characters can put their vote-off post on the bulletin board after the kitchen thread, but due to OOC issues Haneoka had to be the one voted off the first round. We've confirmed enough characters will vote her off anyway but feel free to list whoever else you want. You can do that anonymously too if you prefer.]

((Should we go ahead and just summarize going over them all, and open the floor to any interjections of whose are on which?))

((OOC: Confirmed with all players but L that they haven't touched or at least haven't left prints on any other envelopes, so if you guys wanna go on to two and three. Everyone can mark their envelopes now and we can react in the appropriate timing, so we're not waiting on anyone.

Mikami will have a reaction to 3, if you don't mind pausing there.))

[[With no particular comment on the second note, Ryuk moves on to holding up 3. It seems, note by note, his look of vague intrigue starts to slump into slight boredom - though it's kind of hard to tell, mostly manifest as a faint narrowing of the eyes.]]

[Light's eyes would slide to Mikami. As he already knew whose prints would show up on the third, and the burnt note from Atsushi was nowhere to be seen, that left only one person.]

We've seen whose the first belongs to. Since there seems to be a lack of prints, the second belongs to Ryuk. When you compare, you'll see the third belongs to me. Atsushi-kun burnt his note, which I'm sure we'll find in envelope five.

Mikami-san, will we find yours on the next?

[Mikami is, as L finishes with the third, holding up the print comparisons, looking between his and Light's. It doesn't take him long to nod and set both sets of prints down, satisfied that it's Light's. However, his eyes go immediately to Atsushi, at least until he notices Light's fall on him. He glances in Light's direction, starting to try to move slowly, to try to get one of them subtly on either side of Atsushi, as if harboring some misunderstanding about what's communicated by that look. He nods.]

[Until that second to last sentence Light says, about Atsushi's burnt note. His expression drops, along with his shoulders, both hands, and coincidentally the fingerprint slips he was holding.]


He what?


[Guess who was out of the room during the time frame in which Atsushi lit his joint to when it was revealed what that joint paper was made of?]

Is that any of yer business, Four Eyes?

Yes! It is! [His voice cracks at that as he slams his hand down on the coutner, the other pointing directly at Atsushi.] That letter should be yours! The fifth one should be empty! [He looks to said fifth envelope, then back around the room in a rather badly concealed panicked confusion.] You saw it! You all saw it! The Shinigami! That's right! [He promptly turns his pointing finger to Ryuk.] I gave my letters to Ryuk! To the Shinigami! Before I left the room! How could I put those in there with something like that?! [With another scan of the room his eyes settle on L, who also gets to be the target of his finger.] This is some kind of trap set up by you! In going against God! Some kind of trick! Some kind of unfair... Some kind of sick blasphemy, an unfair violation of the rules of evidence! [Despite not really doing himself a lot of favors with it, he's prone to rambling with an increasingly tight voice. Back to Ryuk with the finger again!] Or you! For some kind of entertainment! [His eyes go to Light but while his jaw tenses, his hand doesn't quite shift to pointing to him. He might lack a potential motive or blame to assign to him, but it doesn't look like he's given up trying to think of one yet.]

It isn't as if it particularly marks you as a criminal, Mikami-san.

[Despite saying that, he is not and does not even attempt to sound interested in stopping the show he's putting on. But he will take a break from dusting the all important fourth envelope to sip at his tea while it's going.]

[[Ryuk supports the envelope patiently for L, not yet gracing Mikami's outburst with a verbal response. The grin on his face, however, is positively perverse with delight that he is making infuriatingly little effort to conceal.]]

Mikami-san, please stay calm. [Panic instilled panic, though with the current group, only Atsushi seemed willing to go to heightened emotions.

Aside from Mikami himself at the moment.]

We have your fingerprints to compare the evidence with. If you didn't touch it, they won't be present. But, you're saying the fifth should be empty. Does that mean you didn't put anything inside your envelope?

You were there! [He says as if somehow he expects at least Light to be a more understanding case, if only for having a lack of accusation towards him yet, and points to Ryuk again.] I handed him my things before I left! In order to be completely beyond doubt! That I couldn't have copied it and left a fake! [With another breath, he starts to calm down. He's still visibly angry, but the panic subsides. Mostly.] In the first place, if I had evidence like this, why on earth wouldn't I have us all tend to and vote off the supposed murderer right now?

I wonder why that's true for the person who did have that note.

Before we discuss anything further, we'll see what the prints say. I do remember the incident with Ryuk. [But he was sure they all, or most of them, could see a way around that.] So, we'll wait for results.

By the way, Mikami-san, earlier you had said that the only one who could not have been responsible for this envelope [Setting the tea cup down, he finally takes to dusting envelope number four.] was Atsushi-san. If you weren't aware of the nature of his letter, why is it you were certain of that?

Eh...? Something like that, did I even...

When did I... [Calming down enough to think but not enough to really seem much more composed he stiffens his back.] Because I estimated him to be too stupid to have made steps to keep a deadly, magical weapon instead of trying brute force, you mean? [His fists clench, running his mouth fairly quickly as ideas come to him.] In the first place, he's the only one to have been completely unfazed by this talk of a Death Note.

Everyone, [He's done with you for now, Mikami. He doesn't bother responding to his explanation.] would you like for me to dust the last envelope before we open it for one last confirmation?

[andeatit]

[Light would nod.]

We should dust them all.

[airlynx]

[OOC: Atsushi's saucer-sized fingerprints are there.]

In the mean time, Yagami-san, would you like to confirm that those on the fourth match Mikami-san's instead of yours? Since we are doing things properly. [Dusting that fifth one.] This is unmistakablyAtsushi-san's.

[Light would nod and move to compare the two, though it's done quickly.]

They match Mikami-san. Those do seem like Atsushi-kun's too. Now, before we move too much further, I would like you to test the actual note from the fourth envelope.

Meanwhile, Mikami-san, if you thought one was empty, can you explain your prints being on an envelope at all?

That was quick. [But he doesn't argue, instead turning his eyes to the fourth envelope while putting down the brush for another sip.] Ryuk-san, the letter if you would.

Obviously somebody took my empty envelope and put something else in it. In the first place, as the only other one with finger prints that could possibly be mistaken for mine, shouldn't another party be confirming that they're mine?
