11 PM - Kitchen Thread

[All characters have relocated to the kitchen where they've set envelopes on the table; characters were encouraged (but not required on any game-based level) to put anything besides their welcome message/map into the envelope. Fake outs, of course, allowed. Separate thread by requests since it's been about two months. If your character put anything in their envelope, a reminder that you can post an anonymous comment with the contents of an envelope here, just be sure to PM sheep_dog to let them know you did in case there's any questions. Once your character's made a reply we'll assume you've had a chance to leave any message. Feel free to leave your anonymous messages in or outside the thread.

Characters can put their vote-off post on the bulletin board after the kitchen thread, but due to OOC issues Haneoka had to be the one voted off the first round. We've confirmed enough characters will vote her off anyway but feel free to list whoever else you want. You can do that anonymously too if you prefer.]

No. But you are definitely a potential victim. It is why you must be the most afraid. It is also why the Note cannot be the intended means. According to the copied note, it seems you may not be the only one immune to it, either.

Oi, oi. There's only one way to kill a shinigami, and I don't think that's going to happen here. No offense. [In the wake of that rather cryptic mea culpa, he does pause, contemplatively.] Though... I should be able to leave here whenever I want, but I can't.

And you being brought here and having paper taken from your notebook without any knowledge of the details should also be impossible. We must accept such impossibilities as your existence, so I urge you to reconsider any assumptions you have. [He crawls up to crouch on a stool by the burners for the kettle, turning them on and setting the pot on.]

If you're afraid tonight and want to talk, you know where I stay.

[Light looks at L for a moment, but nods slowly as he turns to Ryuk.]

No one is safe. It's best not to panic, but he's right.

[And his gaze goes back to L.]

There are makeup and shaving brushes in the bathrooms.

Could you get one for us, Yagami-san?

Hm. If I can ask two things: Mikami-san, please watch over the pages and make sure no one else touches the evidence. To make sure he's not distracted, I'd also like Atsushi-kun to come with me.

Understood.

[A multitude of questions swirl around in Atsushi's mind, and he is so overwhelmed that he voices none of them.] Sure...

[He gives a nod to each of them in turn.]

Thank you. [And then he turns to L.] Tell me everything you need. Once I come back, I don't plan on leaving the room again until we all do.

The softer the brush, the better. [His thumb slides over his lower lip, eyes at the ceiling before looking at Light and Atsushi again.] Ah, and if you could bring fishing rope or the sashes from any bathrobes.

Then, Atsushi-kun, let's hurry.

[Assuming he'll be followed, he exits the room after one last look at the envelopes.]

[Mikami watches after them until they're out of sight before looking to L, then to Ryuk. After another moment, he holds out a hand expectantly, like a surgeon calling for forceps.]

Paper.

[inthecolosseum]

[If the shinigami takes any offense at such a brusque inquiry, it's overridden by interest and a strange curiosity. He hands over the papers as requested.]

((I'm inclined to assume shinigami probably do not have fingerprints or body oils, the latter being because they don't really have a metabolism to speak of. Anything that'd be left behind by the paper being handled by a big long clawed finger is otherwise presumably left.))

It's a little late to add your fingerprints to something now.

[Maybe the prior demand didn't earn any open offense, but a glare, as if Ryuk had just done something so imbicilic he needs a minute to decide if it's a joke or earnest stupidity, might push things just a little further. He doesn't touch the papers in question.

He also doesn't justify L with a response.

Decorum's not really Mikami's strong suite.]

A blank one. From your Note. You have one still, right?

[inthecolosseum]

[This gives him a bit of pause, his posture visibly tensing.]

Oi. You're pushing it, human, demanding even part of a shinigami's Death Note like that.

[There's a few seconds' pause, leaving just whether he'll comply with the request hanging in the air. Whether it's in contemplation, or just to send a message, however, after the moment passes, he tears a small strip from a page of the notebook, no more than an inch wide and three inches long. Pinched between his claws, he simply holds it out.]

((An afterthought: Imagine the stage-musical Ryuk reacting to any of these things.))

[If nothing else, Mikami's patient. He waits with no particular sense of urgency; it's not until he sees him tearing a strip that he complains.]

Do you think that a decent fingerprint card can be made from that little?

[inthecolosseum]

[Somehow, this seems to be what he was waiting for, as he proceeds to tear out a larger piece of the paper, his response flecked with sarcasm.]

Oh, is that what you needed? You only had to ask. [Still, seeming content to have - however briefly - asserted some defense of his dignity, he presents the more feasibly sized paper without a fuss.]

That much isn't necessary. But I won't stop you.

[L starts to turn to the pantry then stops.]

Shinigami, if he touches anything while I'm gathering materials, would you please tell me?

[inthecolosseum]

[That subtle tonal shift evokes a more affable grin on Ryuk's face.]

Sure.

Why would I want to touch anything? [In case it weren't abnundantly clear that it's a rhetorical question, Mikami mumbles to himself while pulling the kettle off of the burner.] If my fingerprints are on anything but that last envelope, it'd be obvious I interfered with an ongoing investigation...

[L smiles. Unlike Ryuk, he apparently enjoys Mikami's perpetual bitchiness.]

[Then it's off to the pantry to begin gathering cooking oil and paper towels. It's only a few seconds as he seems to already know exactly where they are in the pantry. He takes two long cups, a tea cup, and two bowls and sets them on the counter as well. Once gathered he perches in a chair again, setting things up.]

Unfortunately I did not see apples. But things will become interesting shortly, so please bare with us until then.

Speaking of interesting... [Since Mikami so rudely took his kettle he'll just start putting sugar in an empty cup.] Is there a reason that Shinigami write human names on Death Notes?

It's to extend our own lifespans. Maybe for fun, for some, I guess. But when a human's name is written in a Death Note, their remaining natural lifespan is added to the shinigami's. We don't need to do it very often.
