11 PM - Kitchen Thread

[All characters have relocated to the kitchen where they've set envelopes on the table; characters were encouraged (but not required on any game-based level) to put anything besides their welcome message/map into the envelope. Fake outs, of course, allowed. Separate thread by requests since it's been about two months. If your character put anything in their envelope, a reminder that you can post an anonymous comment with the contents of an envelope here, just be sure to PM sheep_dog to let them know you did in case there's any questions. Once your character's made a reply we'll assume you've had a chance to leave any message. Feel free to leave your anonymous messages in or outside the thread.

Characters can put their vote-off post on the bulletin board after the kitchen thread, but due to OOC issues Haneoka had to be the one voted off the first round. We've confirmed enough characters will vote her off anyway but feel free to list whoever else you want. You can do that anonymously too if you prefer.]

[The shinigami stops to examine its hands. The expression on its face almost seems to suggest it's checking whether it HAS fingerprints, but perhaps not.]

A makeup brush. If the makeup brush can't be found, a toothbrush, rubber band and scissors.

[He fully plans for somebody else to go look for those things. In the mean time, he heads into the pantry. Instead of coming out with anything that's helpful to the investigation, he gets sugar and tea bags for the tea kettle, and starts making a pot.]

[Mikami heard you, L. He glances in that direction fleetingly watching as L goes about getting his own tea after all, so he must have. But Mikami answers Atsushi instead of running the slightly more relevant, less butler-like errand than the tea task he failed to take up.

Ryuk still gets his catty show, it seems.]

Yes, after the bizarre so-called detective who's conveniently yet to give a name to anybody with the predicted murder weapon being based on names, the god of death armed with a notepad full of them even after most of us have disarmed, and the illegal substance abuser, I am indeed the one to fear the most. A brilliant deduction.

No. There's a murder method beyond the Note.

[Hey L. See that? Everybody else can see Light is. not. a. murderer.]

I think so, too, aside from the always available methods of murder. The person behind the game made everything for a reason. I don't think they would depend on us finding out each other's names for it to work.

[Atsushi crosses his arms threateningly at Mikami, refusing to let this go.] Yea, but at least we know somethin' about the rest of 'em when we know most nothin' 'bout you. The unknown is what you gotta fear. You, not me. I'm not scared of nothin'.

You act like we've given our life histories.

Ya got somethin' to hide, Four Eyes? I unlike you am an honest man. Yea, I been smokin' some good stuff and I'm not ashamed to say it. Yea, borrowed some stuff without permission. Yea, I been to the tank. But who hasn't?

[He gives a cursory look to the others present, obviously willing to bet each of them will say they haven't.]

Atsushi-kun, Mikami-san, you two may not get along, but the argument is futile. We didn't arrive here with many relics from our home lives, so all we have is our word for the past, the present in which someone is still hiding a dangerous weapon, and a future in which a death might occur. Regardless of how well we do or don't get along, it's not worth holding up an investigation which might stop one of us from dying. So, let's focus on finding out who's withholding their note.

Hold on, just one second. [He indicates L, head twisting in something like a curious head-tilt.] You said there's a murder method besides the note. What do you mean by that exactly? Are you thinking something specific?

No. But you are definitely a potential victim. It is why you must be the most afraid. It is also why the Note cannot be the intended means. According to the copied note, it seems you may not be the only one immune to it, either.

Oi, oi. There's only one way to kill a shinigami, and I don't think that's going to happen here. No offense. [In the wake of that rather cryptic mea culpa, he does pause, contemplatively.] Though... I should be able to leave here whenever I want, but I can't.

And you being brought here and having paper taken from your notebook without any knowledge of the details should also be impossible. We must accept such impossibilities as your existence, so I urge you to reconsider any assumptions you have. [He crawls up to crouch on a stool by the burners for the kettle, turning them on and setting the pot on.]

If you're afraid tonight and want to talk, you know where I stay.

[Light looks at L for a moment, but nods slowly as he turns to Ryuk.]

No one is safe. It's best not to panic, but he's right.

[And his gaze goes back to L.]

There are makeup and shaving brushes in the bathrooms.

Could you get one for us, Yagami-san?

Hm. If I can ask two things: Mikami-san, please watch over the pages and make sure no one else touches the evidence. To make sure he's not distracted, I'd also like Atsushi-kun to come with me.

Understood.

[airlynx]

[A multitude of questions swirl around in Atsushi's mind, and he is so overwhelmed that he voices none of them.] Sure...

[andeatit]

[He gives a nod to each of them in turn.]

Thank you. [And then he turns to L.] Tell me everything you need. Once I come back, I don't plan on leaving the room again until we all do.

The softer the brush, the better. [His thumb slides over his lower lip, eyes at the ceiling before looking at Light and Atsushi again.] Ah, and if you could bring fishing rope or the sashes from any bathrobes.

Then, Atsushi-kun, let's hurry.

[Assuming he'll be followed, he exits the room after one last look at the envelopes.]

[Mikami watches after them until they're out of sight before looking to L, then to Ryuk. After another moment, he holds out a hand expectantly, like a surgeon calling for forceps.]

Paper.

[inthecolosseum]

[If the shinigami takes any offense at such a brusque inquiry, it's overridden by interest and a strange curiosity. He hands over the papers as requested.]

((I'm inclined to assume shinigami probably do not have fingerprints or body oils, the latter being because they don't really have a metabolism to speak of. Anything that'd be left behind by the paper being handled by a big long clawed finger is otherwise presumably left.))
